About Non-Purebred Dogs
Non-purebred is a term that represents several different breed types recognized by CKC, including designer breeds, miscellaneous breeds, hybrids, and mixed breeds. While "designer breed" is a relatively new term, the crossing of developed breeds and landrace breeds (those developing naturally before being domesticated) has existed since the very early days of the human-canine bond.
Most purebred breeds recognized today are less than 200 years old and are the result of crossing the existing breeds of the time. for example, the Doberman Pinscher was once a "designer breed," which consisted of several different breeds, including the Weimaraner, the Rottweiler, and the German Pinscher. Today, the Doberman is one of the most popular and easily recognized dogs in the world.
