We have a solution for non-registered purebred dogs.

CKC believes that every dog deserves an identity, and the PAW Program provides an opportunity for purebred dogs of proper breed type a chance to be registered. The PAW Program employs examining the physical measurements, photographs, and witnesses' signatures who attest to the breed submitted as a way to bring dogs who’ve lost their papers back into the gene pool.

Is My Dog Eligible for the PAW Program?

To be eligible for evaluation through the PAW program, the applicant canine must:
• Be purebred and of an approved CKC breed.
• Be at least ONE YEAR of age.
• Females cannot be pregnant or nursing.
• Have a completed PAW application.
• Submit five photographs of the applicant canine.
• Two witness signatures from people familiar with the breed who are at least 18 years of age to attest to the dog's purebred status.
• Pay a non-refundable $50 evaluation fee.

Check CKC's PAW Eligible Breeds list before applying. Only the breeds on this list are eligible for PAW Registration.

How to Take Photos for the PAW Program

To take the photos of your dog, it is best to get a helper to get your dog into position. Have your helper either take the pictures or stand off to the side with some treats to lure your dog into standing still and straight up. You will need to submit at least five photos as described below, but CKC encourages dog owners to submit more than the minimum required 5 photographs to assist with the evaluation process.

Additional photographs may be requested for proof of breed-specific characteristics, such as double-dewclaws in some mountain, pastoral, or herding breeds, and dorsal views of ridged-back breeds. CKC may request that dogs be groomed in a breed-appropriate clip or style in photographs for better evaluation.
