Head: Broad, heavy, block-like, with good bone, well-muscled cheeks, and well defined stop. Flat across the top skull when viewed from the front.Eyes: Almond to round in shape, ranging in color from dark to light brown. Fully pigmented rims. Eye rims should be well-fitted, with no visible haw or rolling of the eye lid.Ears: Set high on the skull, giving flattened appearance, and carried either buttoned or rose. Muzzle: Broad, deep, square, with wide nostrils. Length should not exceed 1/3 of the entire skull length. Lips fully pigmented. Flews: loose but never pendulous, covering the teeth.Nose: Self-colored according to coat.Bite: Scissor, reverse scissor, or tightly undershot to approximately 3/8th of an inch, with the canine teeth being closely aligned. Forty-two large, clean, white, strong teeth present. Neck and BodyNeck: Medium length, well-muscled, and slightly arched.Topline: Back is straight with a level or slightly sloped topline.Body: The body is well-balanced, powerful, solid, and fashioned in a manner that allows the dog ease of movement. It should never appear clumbersome, heavy, or loaded. The chest is broad and deep, with the brisket extending to the point of the elbows.ForequartersForequarters are in balance with the hindquarters. Forequarters are well angulated with well laid back shoulder blades. Shoulder blade approximately equal in length to the upper arm.Elbows: Elbows are close to the body. The point of the elbows is approximately half the dog’s height at the withers. Forelegs: are straight, of good muscle and bone, parallel to one another when viewed from the front, and set well under the body. HindquartersUpper thigh and lower thigh equal in length, strong, sturdy, of good bone, and well-muscled. Stifle joint well-angulated with a good bend to well-let down rear pasterns. Angulation of hindquarters in balance with angulation of forequarters. Rear pasterns are perpendicular to the ground when viewed from the side and parallel to one another when viewed from the rear.Feet: Round, compact with well-arched toes.Tail: Pump handle tail is thick at the base and tapers to the hocks. Tail may be natural or docked.Movement: Fluid, effortless, powerful with good reach and drive. Never clumsy or heavy. The characteristics of healthy structure are evident: when moving away, the forelegs and rear pasterns should remain parallel to one another. When moving to you, the forelegs should remain parallel, with elbows and paws moving neither moving in nor out. From the rear, the back pads should be visible when the rear legs are extended. From the side, the topline should remain firm and level. Good reach of movement in the front allows the forepaw to extend out in a line with the nose. The width between the fore feet when extended should be approximately equal to the width between the hind feet when extended, indicating balance, good reach, and good drive.Temperament: Stable, sound, alert, confident, outgoing, and discerning. Any unprovoked aggressive or fearful behavior toward people is incorrect for this breed.Faults: Any departure from this description is considered a fault. Unless altered, all male dogs should have two fully descended testicles.
